On Sept. 1, 2006, Friends of Rose Canyon, along with EHL and other conservation groups, filed suit against the City of San Diego to protect Rose Canyon – an “urban wildland” park – from a destructive bridge and roadway.

Rose Canyon is one of the City of San Diego’s gems – high quality wildlife habitat that serves as parkland for the metropolitan area. Although less damaging transportation alternatives were available, the City did not use them. State and federal wildlife agencies opposed the project due to effects on the Multiple Species Conservation Program. The City Attorney also opposed the project, citing an inadequate Environmental Impact Report.

In this litigation, filed under the California Environmental Quality Act, the conservation groups are represented by the law firm of Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger.
