In response to EHL and other environmental groups, an expansion of this
southeastern Los Angeles County community college was redesigned to
spare coastal sage scrub.
Located near the near the intersection of the 60 and 605 freeways,
college property is part the Whittier-Chino-Puente Hills wildlife
linkage, and is considered a Significant Ecological Area by the County
of Los Angeles. When coastal sage scrub was proposed for
destruction, EHL, local groups, and public agencies all
submitted comments. Local activists also had a productive meeting
with the college administration.
EHL commends Rio Hondo College for redesigning their project to
maintain important habitat while also meeting their educational mission.
