EHL is participating in an advisory group convened by the
Schwarzenegger Administration on planning issues. The stakes and the
potential are enormous.
California
lags far behind many other states in managing growth, continuing to
subdivide its precious natural resources into wasteful estate lots and
into dispersed housing tracts. Initially focused on the California
Environmental Quality Act, or CEQA, the advisory group enlarged its
scope to address the entire spectrum of dysfunctional planning that
besets the state. EHL serves on the advisory group, and has chaired a
working group on resource protection and orderly development.
Common
ground with the building industry, local government, agricultural, and
other interests has been identified. The Legislature and the Governor
owe it to the people of California to overcome partisan politics and
work together on this overarching priority.
