EHL’s El Monte Valley restoration project attracted media attention.

On Sept. 19, 2005, the San Diego Union-Tribune provided background on this EHL initiative (“District to decide future of valley site: Nature habitat may oust golf course plan”). EHL San Diego Director Michael Beck enthusiastically described the environmental benefits, concluding that, “We've been presented with an opportunity to do something, so we're jumping at it.” The newspaper followed up on Sept. 21, 2005 (“Golf plan for El Monte Valley gives way to nature habitat”) reporting that the Helix Water Distict had unanimously voted to authorize negotiations. According to Beck, “We feel this is a historic moment.”
