EHL sues to protect northern San Diego County from sprawl

On behalf of land development interests, the tiny San Luis Rey Municipal Water District is attempting to annex large portions of the North County. EHL filed suit against the environmental impact report (EIR) for the project.

Following a letter from EHL showing conflicts between Riverside County’s brush clearance regulations with the Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan, that ordinance has been significantly improved while maintaining fire safety.

Faced with a scathing staff report and negative public opinion, the sponsor of the Foothill toll road, the Orange County Transportation Corridor Agency (TCA), delayed a scheduled October hearing at the California Coastal Commission.

Casino expansions stress San Diego backcountry
San Diego County is home to 18 Indian tribes, half of which operate casinos, generally in remote areas. Under state law, facility expansions trigger a negotiation between the tribe and local government to mitigate off-reservation impacts. In the North and East County, planned expansions pose serious challenges to this process.
